Shape Shifter

Tired of the same old movement pathways? Sometimes you need to revisit the basics to make something new! Come experiment with me in dancing phrases made entirely from one shape! An entire combo made only from circles? A whole phrase made only from squares? Learn how one movement can provide an entire section of choreography just by expressing that shape with different parts of the body and in different directions!  Sunday, July 14th -10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

IMPROVISATION? GAME IT!

Does the mere thought of improvising paralyze you with fear? Do you feel stuck with the same repeated movements? Well then, this workshop is for YOU!

We'll have a blast playing imagination games with words, sounds, colors, and more.

Nothing requires such thorough preparation as improvisation. Winston Churchill devoted the best years of his life to the preparation of his improvised speeches.

Our life is is an improvisation! You don't know what the next song or melody will be, you live in the composition that sounds right now!

Let's remember our childhood. We heard the music, and we feel freedom and dance easy in its rhythm. We can all dance regardless of whether we've ever learned it or not. The most important thing in the Creative process of creating your dance is to enter in the condition, where we will start our class.

You will learn 1000000 ways to start improvising, thereby learning the possibilities of yourself from within and your body. Games provide a wonderful achievement of the surrounding joy, vivacity, pleasure. In games, we easily learn and improve creative abilities and vital skills.    Friday, July 12th- 3:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.

TO SEE THE MUSIC. TO HEAR THE DANCE.

Dance is created with and through music. This is music visual expression. But it's only an instrument in the hands of a dancer, because only dancing what you hear without putting inside your own, is not a dance as a separate art form.

In many choreographic schools musical literacy is an obligatory subject. But in this class, we immediately move on to practice! A few useful creative games-exercises for the development of musicality will help you feel the music, see the music, understand the music.

What is so necessary for a dancer is to learn, how to be in harmony with it.

Music is a puzzle. We will listen every part and explore our feelings and imagination while listening to it.

After some exercises, I would love to share with you my new choreography, my understanding and vision how to dance a melody. And i hope you will get a lot of inspiration!      Saturday, July 13th- 9:30 a.m- 11:30 a.m.

CONTRAST OF MOTION

After learning of the standard 8-counting combinations we often have a desire to make your dance more alive and interesting for the viewer. And this contrast makes people laugh, cry with joy or cry. For example roller-coaster that move slowly, and then almost throw you into the abyss before gently returning back to earth. That is what we are going to do on the class - the addition of emotions in motion, contrast, slow and fast to make your dance more incredible and powerful.

Sunday, July 14th  2:45 p.m.- 4:45 p.m.

Choreography Concepts

Choreography Concepts 1 & 2 are part of a four-step process of developing choreographic skills through contemporary dance. The movement concepts shared are based on the modern dance pedagogical approach in teaching choreography as an art form. Concept 1 introduces and develops your Movement Tool Box including elements of movement quality, shape, rhythm, dynamics, texture, and more.  This strengthens technique and will enhance your performance skills. Concept 2 utilizes the Movement Tool Box to create solo and group dances using the concepts of movement structure, developing a motif, and choreography composition. Both concepts will deepen the expressive and aesthetic value of your dance, and are profoundly helpful in creating original and personally meaningful work.

Friday, July 12th- 1:15 p.m.- 3:15 p.m.

The Water is Fine!!! Intro to Datura Style™ Improv

Sink your first couple toes into a new realm of improv! Some movements may be rooted out of American Tribal Style®, but they are lovelingly given a fusion feel, and performed on both the right and left side of the body. We will learn steps to start moving us into formations for duets and trios and learning how to switch from one side of the body to the other. Our focus will be on the movement in groups and how we can play off of each other.
